Barbara Furry, RN-BC, MS, CCRN, FAHA, is nationally recognized for quality healthcare education. With thirty years of critical care nursing experience, Barbara shares her passion for teaching and advances in cardiac care to all areas of healthcare education. She holds a Master’s of Science degree in Health from Cambridge State University. Barbara reaches beyond the traditional functions of medical education to be a catalyst, advocate for, and a provider of education that promotes change, development and improvement in the nurses’, EMT-Ps’, physicians’ and allied healthcare practitioners’ delivery of patient care.
As Director of The Center of Excellence in Education and Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA), Barbara contributed to the development of ‘Pre-Hospital STEMI Care: A Statewide Plan for California’ as well as several AHA textbooks, including ‘AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Manual’, ‘AHA HeartSaver First Aid CPR AED Student Workbook’ and ‘AHA Family and Friends CPR Facilitator’.
Barbara has volunteered for the American Heart Association (AHA) since 1986 in many leadership roles and recently completed serving the AHA National Education Subcommittee. Additionally she has served as AHA Past-Chair, Emergency Cardiovascular Care Committee and AHA Board Member. She is currently AHA ACLS/PALS/BLS Instructor and Regional Faculty. Barbara is Director of an authorized AHA Training Center and accredited provider of continuing education for physicians, nurses and allied healthcare professionals.
Family, friends and travel fill the remaining hours. Barbara’s husband is a forensic anthropologist; her two adult children are following career paths in law and veterinary medicine. Her home is further shared with dogs, cats, an iguana, tortoise, snakes… and birds of many feathers (hence the email address: furryfarm@comcast.net).
