This two-hour course will provide a complete review and update of the treatment of malignant hyperthermia. The causative factors for malignant hyperthermia and testing of patients who might be prone will be addressed. Discussion of lab values that need to be drawn and monitored will be reviewed. Also discussed and reviewed are the potential arrhythmias that might occur during malignant hyperthermia. During the practical component, students will practice reconstitution, dosing, and calculation for the administration of Dantrolene. The course will also provide the opportunity of applying cooling measures that they have at their facility, ice, cooling blankets etc.
